But in the ones that I was in, um
The first few rounds that come in are the scariest, at least when we were there, because our rules of engagement said that we couldn't proactively shoot anyone.
You had to be shot at first.
And so when I talked about why are we needlessly risking our lives, some of the operations we we would plan for, because we did all our planning ourselves.
You sort of invited people to shoot at you in order to then be able to be on the offensive or respond to the threat.
So we would literally design operations where
We want to go here because if we get shot at here, we can defend ourselves.
But think about what that really means.
You're you're the bait.
You're going in there and you don't know where the first round's gonna hit.
And so when the first rounds come in, um, a lot of times no one knows where they're coming from, unless they're super effective, and then you do.
But I remember the there was one particular engagement in this town called Zargonshar, this pretty urban, tightly compacted Afghan village.
Where I'm pretty sure the first few rounds were fired at me.
I don't know for sure, but I know it was very early in the engagement where I was I walked across this like four-way intersection where there's low walls across the entire intersection.
But when you walk across the middle,
There's no cover, there's no anything.
You're just sort of exposed for a second.
And there was like a a tall tower that sort of overlooked it.
And there was a shooter up there who fired several rounds into the into the intersection.
And and I was the one that had just walked past the intersect.
