And it quickly degenerated into this sort of cesspool of racism, anti-Semitism.
They renamed it after this sort of online fantasia about a Nazi heaven.
And they had over 400 uses of the N-word, including ways that they wanted black Americans to be murdered and curbstomping and crucifixion.
Which is to say, when they didn't think people were listening, right?
What's character?
Character is what you do when you think nobody's watching.
That's why these chat groups are so revealing in real time.
You know, we could say we don't know what's in someone's heart, but when a group gets together behind closed doors and there's a digital documentation of what they're saying, and it goes to the worst...
That's dangerous.
And just six months before that, there was a group of national young Republican leaders, including leaders from New York, who were saying things like, I love Hitler, talking about gas chambers.
um and this is part of a problem it's a nick fuentes groiper driven thing uh it's particularly a problem among young people a decade ago or so when i wrote that book wingnuts remember that it was about the right-wing backlash against obama one of the reporting i did was about a young college republican uh chat group in a chat room that was really racist
But we've gone from really racist reaction of Barack Obama to a president of your own party, and the young members are talking about Hitler.
It's a magnet for folks who are Nazi curious, and it's being disseminated by folks like Nick Fuentes.
It's not just anti-Israel to anti-Semitism to Hitler.
The Manhattan Institute, a center-right think tank, respectable one, you know, they're announcing 17% of the GOP could be called anti-Jewish Republicans.
And for those folks who, the swing voters who voted for Trump last time because they believed in the wake of October 7th that the anti-Israel protests on the left on campus made them vote, this is becoming a growing coalition from the grassroots with folks who were avowed Nazis and Holocaust deniers.
This is incredibly dangerous.
And I'm happy to take on the far left and the far right.
And there's a horseshoe theory in our politics.
But we're talking about people who in private are expressing admiration for Hitler.
