And in Fingleton's slight defense, I've got to say that what he did was sanctioned by the financial regulator.
Like they saw this small building society turning into a big player on the property market and handing out all these commercial loans because all that paperwork crossed their desks.
You know, it would have to.

Well, let's just have a look at that relationship with journalists.
He did.
So back in 1980s, which I would remember, but you don't, journalists were seen as a kind of a scuzzy lot, you know, badly dressed, long haired.
I think we still are in some respects.
Running around in anoraks with notebooks, taking notes about gigs and League of Ireland football matches and so on.
Nothing wrong with either of those things?
But they were seen as a decidedly bad risk.
You would not be trusting these people with the milk money, let alone giving them money for a house.
