Um this is September nineteen forty two, so it's before the second battle of Alamee.

I think it's really interesting, you know, c contrast with German armoured regiments who expect to just keep fighting and fighting and fighting.

I mean, you know, we remember we were talking about the whole of I think it was it sixteen Panzer Division after Smolensk having twelve left or something and still gotta keep going.

That doesn't happen in the British Army and quite right too.

Uh and around this time Beast Squadron is is sent to eighth Army Tactical Headquarters at

Burg al Arab.

And the task is to protect the army commander and his staff, who of course is now

Monty.

Yeah.

So they've gone back to look after

And he went, Oh, not a huge amount, to be perfectly honest.

Yeah.

Anyway, one of the squadron, Jock Fraser, is given the job of driving Monty around whenever he needs a tank.

And it's Jock, according to Sam, who suggests that Monty wear a tank beret instead of the Aussie's broad brim hat.

And the idea sticks.
