I I know how strong his commitment to defence and national security is.

I know the sense of mission that he brings to the job he does.

And I I see him now as a different politician than he was in the previous two uh leadership elections that he fought.

What strikes me about Andy Burnham now is he is a leader

That's one of the things that he will make clear and confirm when he ac takes over.

For now I'm encouraged by the fact that he's said he will make good this unexpected shortfall that is there in the funding for the current defence investment plan.

And he's made clear his str strong commitment to defence.

And he will recognise I think the

extraordinary op opportunity there is to rebuild British industry and innovation.

It's part of our deterrence for the future, not just the strength of our forces.

For now I'm really encouraged that Keir Starmer said defence now will be the number one priority for that spending review.

That is for Andy Burnham to spell out exactly um where his priorities lie.

But I know how seriously he takes defense.

Um I know the briefings that he will now be getting um through the access talks that have started.

I know where he will be briefed, I know the decisions that he will have to take as Prime Minister.

And when he's when he sees as I do

investment in defence as part of the revitalization uh and reindustrialization, as well as the

acceleration of a innovative new defence tech sector for Britain.
