I don't know any fields that these are used in.
There are situations from intelligence-led investigations where there's warrants are got from the courts and
Houses are searched and these e-scooters are got that way.
But I can tell you from my own experience, myself and my day job in the Roads Police in County Kildare and from colleges across the country, we're doing it.
We're at checkpoints, we're on patrol and if an e-scooter fails to stop,
um i've said this before and this is not making light of it turn up the benny hill music because it's it's it's it's a joke at this stage it's impossible it's impossible to intervene and stop without the possibility of of injury or worse happening and then the finger is
We're very angry over this, our association, you know, with the exposure that our members are facing.
And the public, by the way.
And the public.
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I suppose this is a relatively new phenomenon in the country.
Like the last 12 to 18 months, the amount of these e-scooters has multiplied significantly.
infinitum on the on the road so our members are going out and dealing with them but for you as somebody that is adamant not to stop it is very hard and and it's very worrying for the public and for our members to be honest about it yeah even with extra training i mean um it it is difficult to catch them if they're determined to try and get away isn't it it is look unless um i i you know we were all um
well-tuned in people, maybe see clips off YouTube or Instagram, whatever their social media preference is, of the Met Police and other jurisdictions where they have a fairly hard stop policy when it comes to these scooters and, I suppose, e-bikes and things like that in urban centres where there's a hard stop involved.
And those police officers are indemnified against anything that comes from that.
That's what we're looking for here.
We're not looking for anything that is unreasonable here.
We're looking for our members to be protected, to get the proper training and resources.
Now, to be honest about it, I'm not saying talk is cheap, but we have had plaudits from the Minister for Justice in months gone by saying he would give whatever support he could to members of Gareth Sheehan to tackle this problem.
Our commissioner has come out and said it is a priority.
