It also showed what an extraordinary collaborator he is, because this is an album of collaboration.
In his career, he'd already shown that with Art Garfunkel, of course.
But I suppose some of their great music was the pair of them working in sync to create that, whereas this is very much him, but with these other important artists as well.
And I think its legacy... Did it invigorate him musically as well?
Oh, yeah, I think so.
I think so, because there were a lot of other interesting albums that happened in the wake of this that like the follow up album, Rhythm of the Saints from 1990, basically discovered the extraordinary sounds of Brazil.
And again, that album was part of that was showcased in Dublin.
That was a career spanning show, by the way, two and a half hours long.
It was just absolutely stunning.
It feels really special.
And it also, it's tinged with poignancy because you do sense, is this the last time that you'll see him?
He is 84, remember?
For me, the greatest show I ever saw was Leonard Cohen at Kilmainham.
It was just mind-bendingly great.
But this was special.
And you see, if you fast forward 12 years after this, you've got the Buena Vista Social Club.
You've got Roy Cooter going to Havana.
and discovering these octogenarians in wonders of Cuban music and giving them a spotlight for the world.
One could actually say that Roy Cooter with that album was even more generous in that he kind of almost stepped aside and let them take centre stage, whereas Graceland is very much Paul Simon at the centre of it, but surrounded by all these people.
