But if you draw out your lens, which is what I did, a mile away, the streets that I grew up down in a council estate, there's dots everywhere around my council estate.
When I was growing up, I didn't know any of this.
Everybody had been affected by the war in the 60s and the 70s when I was growing up.
Nobody talked about it.
And here were that you could see that where I played kick the cannon, hide and seek, people had died.
where I walked to church or to my primary school every day.
And the buildings were slightly different, slightly different roof, slightly different brickwork.
Well, I'd never thought why that would.
And then you can look in the archive.
You see, at the end of your street, three people died in an Anderson Air Raid shelter there that night.
And then you can find their stories.
You can look in the archive and you can find their stories.
And you can find pathway news footage of the houses at the end of my street.
with a union flag flying outside and people digging through the rubble and girders and rafters.
And you can see the blown up Anderson shelter.
That's history.
I love history, Dan, and I know that you do.
History was happening in my street on my council estate.
And I didn't know till I started writing this book.
So Millie's the same age as my mum would have been if she was alive.
