And and and in the conversations that I've had around the world over the last um, I guess post-COVID, sort of certainly the last three years, uh, the stock of debt uh
And governments inability to to rein in in deficits has been a common theme.
Uh I don't think that's what's triggered um most of the move in the last twelve months.
It's been it's been more of a slow burn that's been continuing for for a number of years.
Probably to a degree.
But I but I think that there are genuine reasons why gold prices have have done well this year, even taking out the froth that might be there from speculation.
I mean, expectations of interest rate cuts um obviously uh are s very supportive of gold.
And Trump, through some of his economic policies, I think has made that more likely.
Uh we are seeing a slowing US economy, although it would be nice to see some data to support it, of course.
With the uh the US government shutdown at the moment, we are kind of flying a little bit blind.
But yeah, the US economy's slowing a bit and that's that's gonna lead to interest rate cuts.
Interest rate cuts are good for gold.
But I think some longer term concerns uh as well have come out of the Trump administration, which we probably didn't expect, uh or we didn't expect as aggressively as quickly.
I mean the the focus on tariffs and the the the use of uh the of threats of super high tariffs are a very blunt weapon.
I I've joked that it's taking, you know, government policy back to the eighteen seventies if you look at the sort of levels of of tariffs that have been spoken about and and and the last time we saw them this high.
Um I I think the other thing that that it hasn't surprised me
Um, but it shocked me.
We know Trump's wanted lower interest rates forever.
I mean, he's a leverage real estate developer at heart, and obviously he wants interest rates to be as cheap as they possibly can.
