But then after I'd come out of the mansion and went back to Australia, I fell into this conversation with this gallery owner in Melbourne.
And she told me that Kanye's people, about a year earlier,
had contacted this Melbourne gallery because one of the artists in the gallery had done these installation pieces of this kind of forest.
The artist was Jewish and she'd gone, I think it was to Poland, and it was based on the forest she'd seen around the concentration camps.
And so then it became like, why did Kanye...
What was he Googling that he ends up... Like, was he Googling installation art or was he Googling Holocaust?
Like, anyway, the long and the short of it is the artist ended up getting flown by Kanye and Kim to another of their mansions in Los Angeles, and she did up their house for their celebrity Christmas party.
And so he'd kind of taken this...
that originally had been, you know, about the forests around concentration camps and just thought, oh, no, this looks like cool trees that you'd have in a, I don't know, like for a Christmas party.
He seems to have this weird interest in Jewish stuff.
Yeah, I looked into the whole David Bowie thing because when I saw what Kanye... That occurred to me too with...
is like there's just artists and they play with fire, with Nazi imagery.
Is Kanye playing with fire like Bowie did?
And you're right, as soon as you start going, I'm going to push buttons, I'm going to push buttons, you end up for some reason at the Nazis.
I think there's these universal touch points of transgression and one of them's Nazism, the other's slavery, like black slavery.
And so it does seem like if you're going to start playing with fire as an artist, and also no one says no to you, it seems like you just end up at Nazism.
This is how I'm going to play with fire.
And also there is just a je ne sais quoi about the design and the art direction of Nazism.
And it just makes it very confusing.
At what point do you say, even if you're going to be generous, like I'd be generous and I'd go, well, you know, if some artist wants to play with fire, cool, fine, or whatever.
