it's just it was unbelievable you know john what was the most high profile case you've worked on um with the handwriting really you know i've been in different murder investigations and stuff like that uh but i'd say probably the most high profile one was the hall murders the whole family up in cavern yeah um i don't know that one what was that

The husband, Alan Haw, had murdered his wife and his three sons and then took his own life.

So the whole family was wiped out.

He was a teacher, wasn't he?

The two of them were teachers.

But like I say, I wasn't at the scene, thanks be to God, I wasn't at the scene of that one.

But he had left letters, you know, notes and letters and stuff like that.

It was, yeah.

It was on the glass of the back door.

Please call the Gardaí.

And this was the wife's mother who had called to the house to see where they were.

And thanks be to God, she didn't go in.

She called the Gardaí.

She didn't go in because... That's been a cup of fuck.

Yeah, well, I did the examination on the letters.

Obviously, there wasn't going to be a criminal case because they were all dead, your man was dead and whatnot.

But there was a coroner's inquest and I had to give evidence of that to prove, yeah, he wrote them, you know.

But I'll never forget being at that inquest.

And like you say, some of the first witnesses were the two guards that were first at that scene.
