Things came to a head actually on Monday when the longtime 60 Minutes correspondent confronted his new boss at an internal meeting.

Opelli questioned the qualifications of Nick Bilton, who was appointed to lead the CBS News magazine, and accused the CBS News editor-in-chief, Barry Weiss, of murdering the program.

Opelli says the leadership of 60 Minutes is no longer recognizable.

In a statement, he goes on to say CBS owner Paramount Skydance is apparently trying to curry favor with the Trump administration.

Paramount is currently seeking approval from the Trump Justice Department for its acquisition of Warner Brothers Discovery.

And in his first public remark since he was replaced as Fed chair by Kevin Warsh, Powell said if any president were free to dismiss Fed officials over policy disagreements, the central bank would lose the credibility that's needed to support a strong and stable economy.

Powell was accepting the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award in Boston.

His remarks come as the Supreme Court is deciding the fate of Fed Governor Lisa Cook.

President Trump is trying to fire her over unproven mortgage fraud allegations.

A pal who endured numerous attacks by President Trump because he refused to do his bidding remains on the Defense Board of Governors.

A move, he said, in April was spurred by his concern about attacks on the central bank.
