It's going to be very strategic. matched

It's going to time upgrades when they're tactically most useful. matched

So you bring a new floor, for example, when your previous floor is at the end of its life anyway and needs replacing, so it doesn't cost you very much. matched

You've got a cost cap limit. matched

So it's talked about all this and that we will save all this money till the end of the season and we'll have more of all this stuff. matched

But there does come a point where the value you get from spending upgrades gets diminished the later it goes on. matched

So there's no point saving all your money up to bring a brilliant upgrade for the final round of the season and only have it for one race. matched

So you've got to question when it's coming. matched

And intriguingly tonight, Toto Wolff was asked about McLaren and does that change your situation? matched

You're going to have to respond now to what McLaren has done because Kimi Anson says, no doubt Mercedes is no longer the faster car. matched

And he said, we've got no money for developments, which I thought was quite interesting. matched

Because they seem to have had a plan, but also they've not spent anywhere near as much, as far as we can see, spent anywhere near as much as other teams on upgrades. matched

They've only brought maybe three quarters of the number of upgrades as the other teams. matched

There's some reason as to why, whether they've got a brilliant plan to have great spending coming up later on in the year and when the others have to shut down, or did they spend too much at the start of the season, throw it all in on the early spec car in the hope of pulling ahead massively in the championship, killing the title aspirations of everybody else, matched

and then not needing to develop the car, because others had already given up and were focusing on 27. matched

There's definitely stuff coming, but the question is when, and I think the intrigue is, why would you not try and stave off the McLaren threat now? matched
