yeah so the big beautiful bill right it's it's it's got a lot of tax cuts that's the main part it's got about four trillion dollars in tax cuts heavily skewed towards the wealthiest americans then there's a spending cuts uh very heavily concentrated in cuts to medicaid which is the program for about 70 million low-income americans now uh the tax cuts are a lot bigger
than the spending cuts.
So relative to where we are fiscally going into this, if you pass that bill, the deficit's going to go up.
There are more conservative Republicans, like the one you just saw, who are upset about this.
Now, if you're upset that this is exploding the deficit, you could, for example, not cut taxes so much, maybe not give a big tax break to the wealthy.
Instead, what they demanded was that the cuts to Medicaid become bigger.
So now we are now actually the newest version of the bill.
uh to where we got to today and this is in flux so who knows you know 10 minutes from now it could be something different but the last version we've heard about um the medicaid cuts are even bigger than they were in the old version although it's still you know not as big as the tax cuts so they are cutting more medicaid but they are still the tax cuts are so big that it's going to increase the deficit
There's a committee vote on Wednesday, Wednesday morning at 1 a.m., which, by the way, I mean, sometimes these votes go late.
But I was talking with some other reporters.
We don't ever remember a vote being scheduled.
for 1 a.m.
I mean, that's interesting.
But they'll have this committee vote on 1 a.m.
and then from there it goes to the full House.
And the goal is to have a full vote by the House of Representatives sometime before the weekend, Memorial Day weekend.
Well, that's what I thought when I saw it, too.
But no, no, they mean 1 a.m.
You know, there's two possible explanations here, not mutually exclusive.
One is they really want to get it done immediately.
