You would frequently hear from Trump's inner circle, not universal, but frequently, that Trump was dangerous and that they saw themselves as protecting the United States and the world from Donald Trump.
Now you have a group of people that likes him, believes in him, is loyal to him,
It's a smaller group.
It's more of a tight-knit group.
Some of them went through the whole campaign with him and see him as a figure of destiny.
Some believe that there is a spiritual dimension, that God has...
protected him, how he miraculously avoided being killed with that assassination attempt when the bullet grazed his ear, that this was a divine intervention, and that also Donald Trump's own miraculous ability to come back from January 6th and the indictments and all the tribulations to become president
When he says something in a meeting these days, which might be outlandish or even crazy to some people's ears, the staff this time are far less inclined to dismiss the idea, even if instinctively they're like, oh, that's a bit crazy.
They're much more inclined to think, well, maybe he's picking up on something we're not picking up on.
Or maybe he's seeing something we're not seeing.
That they almost invest him with these supernatural almost capacities.
So it's a group that's much more deferential to him who sees their role as executing what he wants, doing what he wants, and not putting up barriers or obstacles.
I don't know that it shocked me because I know how his world works and I'm so immersed in it and I cover it every day.
But certain events unnerved even the people around him.
So I'll give you an example.
We get into the book, the astonishing sequence of events that leads to Liberation Day last year when Trump starts a trade war with the whole world.
his aides were frightened.
Some of his advisors were genuinely frightened after that moment, because what they started to see in the data was, yes, the stock market dropped, there were gyrations in the Dow, whatever.
But actually what happened after Liberation Day was the bond markets almost melted down.
And Trump pushed the global economy right to the brink
