And although we all remember the 7-1 against Brazil in the semifinal, the other two games after that, the quarterfinal and the final, were both 1-0.
And both slightly scruffy games where they just didn't give anything away.
And really that 7-1 was a story of Brazil's self-destructions rather than Germany doing anything that brilliant.

You think of people like Lennart Kahl or Musiala or Gnabry or Florian Wirtz.

produces forwards like Havertz or Valterrada, not sort of traditional centre-forwards.
And I do wonder whether that's more useful at club level than it is at national level, that those are players who benefit from a more sophisticated, more complicated structure.
And it's at national level, because coaches have so little time to work with the teams, you need to play a more basic style.
And having a centre-forward who can score you loads of goals is England, a family Harry Kane.
it actually covers a multitude of sins.
You get away with a load if you've got a bloke who's going to score a goal a game on average.
And Germany just haven't had that for a long, long time.
