I don't know what exactly we're missing because certainly the prosecution had an opportunity to try this person as an adult, not just for the sexual assaults, but if you have what what you just described, Megan, as an attempted murder, if you ask me, on his cell phone, why they would then agree to prosecute him.

I put that in air quotes under the youthful offender statute.

I don't know if there is maybe behind the scenes, is there some question about the balance of the evidence that has been put forth, whether they would not have been successful in adult court?

These are all the things that the prosecution has to think about when they're making these kinds of charging decisions.

But how do you get around?

And I would like to know from them why they decided to do what they did despite that kind of evidence.

I mean, if we are playing devil's advocate, sure.

At that age, let's assume that these kids, right, 17 years old, are exploring their sexuality.

This is not a situation where you have somebody who's been married to someone for 10 years who has been repeatedly beaten, who can't leave because they don't have a job and three kids, and that kind of battered woman syndrome.

These are teenagers who come and get, you know, I I changed boyfriends like I changed.
