You look at the Iraq war.

at least an expectation that America would make an argument towards the better angels, that for democratic norms, for the safety of the people.
There was an understanding at that time, even though tomfoolery was at play, and there were oil companies that were making a killing, and there was a lot of things at play outside of the general welfare of the Iraqi people and the Americans at the time.

The articulation around why America was there had to be above board, had to be moralistic in some sense.
Yes.
And yet you fast forward to here and the old Congress folks are still playing that game.
They feel like they have to reach to democracy and what have you.
But Donald Trump gives it all away.
And I think that's what's always been so interesting.
