Five million dollars will go to food banks, two million from the emergency fund, and three million from the Alabama Department of Human Resources.

Three hundred dollars will be given to families enrolled in the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program.

Jamie Leo is the director of the Christian Service Mission, a local nonprofit that assists food banks.

The Birmingham City Council also voted to release a million dollars of the city's reserves to help people with food needs.
