He was connected to the thing somehow.
He writhed.
The thing was in his brain.
It was slicing and cutting through his thoughts.
It wants more, he thought with spiraling alarm, understanding that only a little of the blobbish alien had invaded his skin.
And yes, it had invaded.
Because, oh lord, this pain.

They were too far away for Malcolm to know them, to understand them.
His own body felt strange, and whatever he was, well, it was no longer Malcolm.

A thought that had nowhere to go, but at least there was no pain now, no searing internal fire that made his organs feel as if they were melting.
