And the president said, no, I want you to sort of strike while the iron is hot.
So for the last year and a half, she's been a key figure in his inner circle.
He's really centralized government power in a lot of ways, over regulations, over agencies, and sort of has gotten involved in big decisions that companies care a lot about.
And so if you want to stay in his good favor, if you want to be invited to the Oval, if you want to be in these meetings regularly,
If you want to be in the Rose Garden for these dinners, right, Meredith O'Rourke is a key person for you to give money to, to return her calls, and to make sure that she likes you, right?
So part of her power here is that she's been designated by the President of the United States to hold this role that really few people have held ever.
Traditionally, right, you would have the Department of Justice in the public integrity section.
That's been all but decimated under this administration of this Department of Justice.
I certainly think if Democrats win the House of Representatives, based on our reporting, they will be doing some oversight of this.
And a lot of these publicly traded companies then could be forced to explain, what were you promised by the administration?
What happened to that fundraiser?
Why did you go?
Why did you cut that large check?
And that could be really uncomfortable.
A lot of these companies have made a pretty audacious short-term bet that to do business with this administration, to have access to this president, we're going to give large checks.
We're going to curry favor with him to a degree that really has not been done in recent political history with a sitting president.
The question is whether or not that's a smart long-term bet for these companies or not.
Well, it's important because, A, it's one of the United States' top allies, and B, the two men have been prosecuting this war together in Iran for the last four or five months.
