Let's not
overgeneralize.
But at the end of the day, a big publicly traded fintech or VC backed fintech is going to be a lot less concerned, kind of going back to your example about international remittance and sending money back and forth and the Western unions of the world, right?
Those types of organizations are far less concerned about, hey, this is a family that's trying to send money back to another family, and both of them are living paycheck to paycheck.
And this money is literally going to put food on the table for other human beings.
Let me tax the ever-living crap out of that with fees.
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
That
I think is a lot more the, hey, we are beholden to shareholders and how much money we want to make as a company versus what's the common good.
And you look at the fintechs, a lot of them have proven that they're out for shareholder value and out for making as much money as they possibly can.
Whereas you look at a small community bank or credit union, and they're a lot more focused on what's the value I'm providing to my community.
Community, what's the value I'm providing to my account holders?
How can I give back to that by doing things like lower fees and better rates?
And so, as their ability to make money is compressed by bigger players who now have more access to operate like them, my foundational worry is: does the competitive advantage of a credit union or a community bank?
Like start to go away.
And what does that really mean for a US consumer, right?
Who 60% of US consumers are living paycheck to paycheck, man?
Sixty percent.
I can't argue with you.
