But I think the most important words he uttered was after the Constitutional Convention, about 240 or so years ago, when he walked out onto the cobblestone streets of Philadelphia, right outside the Pennsylvania State House, the Independence Hall as we know it. matched

Think about this, a woman who didn't have the right to vote at that moment, walks over to him and says, Dr. Franklin, matched

And Franklin then uttered, I think, the most important words in our democracy. matched

Because I think what he set in motion, what the other founders set in motion was the scaffolding of this new nation, but an acknowledgement that the real work would have to be done by successive generations, by ordinary Americans doing extraordinary things. matched

standing up so others could walk forward, sitting down at the lunch counter so the next generation would have more rights. matched

Franklin understood that. matched

And I think the American people inherently understand that because in every chapter of our American story, it's always ended. matched

with more promise, more hope, more justice, more equity. matched

Now, we're in the middle of a chapter right now where it doesn't feel very hopeful and it doesn't feel like it's gonna end with more justice or more hope. matched

But the reason I am hopeful, the reason why I am optimistic is because I think we will channel Franklin's words again. matched

where folks are gonna rise up. matched

They are gonna demand justice. matched

They're gonna speak out against the corruption of this administration. matched
