The two communities I represent, Trump won Carter Lake by 18 points and won Council Bless by 10 points.
I was able to win by six, six percent.
And I went out every single day, rain or shine, hot or cold, dragging my wheelchair upstairs.
To have conversations with independents and and Republicans because the math just didn't work any other way.
And so I almost got a chuckle out of saying, you're lazy.
It's like, if nothing else, I'm an unbelievably hard worker.
And truthfully, I'm really proud of my time in the Iowa legislature.
When I first joined the legislature, I was told outright, you'll never get a subcommittee, you'll never get a committee, you'll certainly never get anything signed by the governor.
And I said, I refuse.
I'm the first permanently physically disabled member of the Iowa legislature.
I'm like, you can teach a monkey to come up here and push the red button over and over.
I've got to get stuff done.
And so I did the hard work behind the scenes that nobody'll ever hear about: building relationships, trying, finding stretch bell fellows where we can disagree on 90% of policy, but we're going to agree on this one thing that's going to really help people.
And I was able to be one of the most effective and one of the most bipartisan members of the Iowa legislature.
I think that's what people want.
I believe to my core that.
More than Republican versus Democrat.
I think particularly in Iowa, I think what people want is they want a representative that is going to do the hard work behind the scenes.
That what they want is they want a representative
that is going to work to solve people's problems through policy, but through bipartisan policy.
