officials told the Wall Street Journal that they believe this was an IRGC firing.
A White House official telling me that they're not so sure.
It's too soon to say.
In particular, they're not sure that even if it was, whether it was something ordered from on high or sort of a loose cannon firing off a rocket.
The official stressed to me that this ship
kept going and there were no deaths or damages.
So the U.S., in other words, is trying to downplay the significance of that.
Remember, we're in that 60-day clock that's ticking right now for the so-called technical negotiations.
Even by the standards of this administration, which is not exactly like prodding itself on meticulous long-term planning and sticking to it, this has been chaotic.
And so some of the fallout we're seeing is from the lack of specificity, the sort of the Europeans complaining that some of their tariffs have effectively risen.
That's because they've sort of papered over quickly these tariffs without exclusions and sort of, you know, nip and tuck around some of the deals that were painstakingly negotiated, in particular how they stack on top of each other.
