So...
This book follows Cal Hooper, who is a retired Chicago cop that moves to rural Ireland, the fictional village of Ardna Kelty.
He was debuted in Tana's 2020 book called The Searcher.
And then...
Soon after came The Hunter, which is the middle volume, and now we're at The Keeper.
And over the progression of Cal's life in Ireland, we see him go from the outsider and trying to, like, interpolate this really, really closed, almost suspicious community, suspicious of outsiders at the very least.
But by the time we get to The Keeper, he has a fiancée, he has friends, he's got drinking buddies.
And the crime at hand is that a sort of sweet, beloved local girl is found dead, drowned in a river.
And her boyfriend is the son of this cigar-chomping, like, bigwig.
Like, he's rich.
He's connected.
He has, like, designs for the town that are controversial.
And...
And soon Cal is brought in to investigate the death.
And all is not as it seems.
