your Twitter feed, uh it can look like it's taking a little while to load.
Uh you know, that may actually be an algorithm that's saying, let's let's not tell them exactly when the thing is gonna pop up.
So that our brains start anticipating when it's gonna happen.
So that's another example of intermittent reinforcement.
Yes.
Yes, and and most of the work that I've been talking about here you know has been there's been published.
So for example, there's a study that showed uh there are a couple of studies, one done at Harvard I think back in two thousand twelve and then one
done in Europe in two thousand thirteen showing that basically if you give people the option to talk about themselves or to earn money, they're more likely to talk about themselves.
And then when they talk about themselves, they activate the nucleus accumbent, which is this downstream
target of these dopamine neurons that I've been talking about.
So it seems that there is something
Rewarding or something that activates this reward pathway, even when we talk about ourselves.
And it's it's interesting.
There was a study in 2016 that showed.
that if you simulated Instagram feeds and you just manipulated the number of likes that people got, these were adolescents, that you could also activate the same reward based learning system.
Well it's this it's that's a great question.
It's it's the same learning process.
So absolutely.
People say, Well, why would I want to give up my phone?
And I would say, No, that's not the point of this stuff.
