In a momentous trial for Brazilian history, three justices have voted to convict former President Jair Bolsonaro for five crimes, including attempting a coup, violently abolishing the rule of law, and leading a criminal organization.
The judges found that there was ample evidence to show that Bolsonaro, president between twenty nineteen and twenty twenty two, masterminded efforts to overthrow the government after failing to be re-elected.
Bolsonaro may face over forty years in prison.
His sentence and those of his co defendants should be announced on Friday.
