Machado is expected to give a press conference on Tuesday, but Venezuela's attorney general said she would be considered a fugitive if she left Venezuela, where the regime accuses her of conspiracy and inciting terrorism.

Machado is the main challenger of Nicolás Maduro's lengthy rule in Venezuela and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her fight for democracy.

Maduro spoke about his call with Donald Trump during a televised event around 10 days after the exchange.

The regime had kept quiet about the call, with Maduro saying he likes to be prudent about important topics.

I believe that the path between the United States and the Venezuelan people has to be a path of respect, diplomacy and dialogue, he said, adding in English.

The Venezuelan president says he knows the U.S.

well and Americans, too, are tired of, quote, eternal wars and have collective trauma from past conflicts in Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya.

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro pumps his fists in the air while dancing to a remix of his own words, saying, no war, yes, peace.

He spoke to crowds of supporters outside the presidential palace on Monday in a show that he was not about to resign, despite building military pressure from the U.S.

and an ultimatum allegedly made by President Trump in a recent phone call.

Maduro swore on his life absolute loyalty to his country.

He said Venezuela wants peace, but not, quote, a slave's peace, maintaining sovereignty and freedom.

On Tuesday, he gave the go-ahead for an incoming flight deporting migrants from the U.S., days after his government said it was freezing repatriation flights.
