Hi, it's so great to be back.
It's like old times.
It is my first book.
I worked on it for so long, it feels like my 10th or something.
But no, it's actually my first.
Yeah.
Oh, gosh.
Yeah.
So the scout mindset is my term for essentially the motivation to see things as they are and not as you wish they were.
So the term is part of this kind of framing metaphor in the book in which I say that humans were very often by default in what I call soldier mindset, which is
motivation to defend your pre-existing beliefs or defend things you want to believe against any evidence that might threaten them.
And so it's not a new phenomenon that I'm inventing here.
This is something you guys have discussed a lot.
And it's been well studied under different names like motivated reasoning, or sometimes rationalization, or self-justification, or denial.
These are all different facets of what I'm calling soldier mindset.
And I call it that because it's
The way that we reason is so often defensive, where we're kind of trying to fortify our beliefs against any potential opposing arguments.
We try to shoot down ideas that we disagree with or poke holes in other people's logic.
When we concede a point, it's like we're ceding territory in a battle.
So it's all very militaristic, which is why I call it soldier mindset.
