But the novel does do a pivot.

I did see it coming, familiarity with the geopolitics of the region, but a great read.

takes you to the deep south in America, an African-American church.

It is in the voices of two women, Priscilla, the preacher's wife, and Diamond, who is dating the preacher's son, who is known as Wonder Boy.

because he's on his way towards professional football.

And it is darkly comedic in some places and just dark in other places.

But it is also a story of women's resilience and women's triumph over circumstances.

A very intriguing novel.
