So there's been firefighters especially on the ground since the first moments after the quake, and as well as civil defense and other disaster response authorities.
So both the right wing candidate Abelardo de la Espriella and the left wing candidate Iván Cepeda have cast this election as sort of a fight for the fundamental values of Colombia and Colombia's future in a big way.
Cepeda said that he is the option for people who want to look forward to a different future for the country, which, of course, has had a 60 year internal conflict.
On the other side, de la Espriella thinks that Cepeda and the leftist president who's outgoing now, Gustavo Petro, have set Colombia back and helped armed groups grow in size, retake over parts of the country, increase drug trafficking.
The government disputes those claims, or most of them anyway.
They're both couching this.
election as sort of a fight for the country's future and urging people not to look backwards.
But of course, their visions of what is backwards and what is forwards are diametrically opposed.
So if De La Espriega were to win today, he would be the latest right-wing leader to be on the ascendancy in Latin America.
We've seen in Chile with the election of Caste.
We've seen in Argentina with the election of Millet.
And then we're still waiting for final numbers in Peru.
But it seems like in Peru, Fujimori, who's the right-wing candidate, will also win her election.
We've already seen it also in Ecuador, where Daniel Noboa has
premised his entire presidential administration on cracking down on crime gangs, which exploded in Ecuador after the pandemic.
So Del Esprit would be part of that regional trend to a more security-focused, Trump-friendly, right-leaning philosophy about how you improve security.
