She went through this period of intense hypergraphia after she was pregnant with twins and she miscarried and she lost both sons.

And what started as postnatal depression spiraled into a kind of mania and this uncontrollable urge to write just all the time.

She couldn't sleep because she needed to get up and actually get a pen and a piece of paper and just feverishly write down her feelings for hours and hours.

She actually once fell off her bike trying to write on her arm.

And then she'd leave work and run to the bathroom and scribble ideas onto toilet paper.

She just couldn't stop.

Now, this is actually a well-documented phenomenon.

Plenty of authors have experienced something similar.

And Alice can speak to it from both sides because she's lived through it, but she's also a neurologist.

So she's written a fascinating book about the topic.
