When I came home, I was working hospitality.
I was working intermittent jobs, a lot of cash jobs.
When I finally decided to go back to uni and complete my degree, I then was studying.
So I was out of work again.
And then I fell pregnant with my daughter.
And until about three months ago, I have only been working part-time for the last five years.
So if I think about my superannuation balance and where it has been compared to where it could have been if I'd made different choices, my balance is definitely lower as well.
So it's not really a question of, well, what would I do?
It's what I actually have been doing.
And the first part of that is not to fixate on the fact that maybe my balance is lower than what my best friend or my colleague is.
But it's to acknowledge that if I want this to change, that I need to proactively do something about it.
So I make a regular contribution every pay, not a lot because I'm in the thick of it.
As we talked about the reasons why you wouldn't want to be putting money into super, but I'm doing that alongside, you know, investing in my own name.
I'm doing it alongside trying to pay down my debt, but just knowing that if I'm doing little consistent things that in five, 10 years time, my balance is going to slowly increase.
Yeah.
So I actually went to the effort of going one step further.
And obviously you're not just going to be putting $500 a month into super.
You've also got your employer contributions that are going in.
So you have told me for the sake of this conversation, a hundred grand a year, you've got 12% going in from your employer every single month.
So if you don't put money in and you choose to just invest your $500 personally, when you get to 55, you are going to have just on a million dollars in your personal investment, which is exactly what you want.
