Look, Nick, I would say that that is a very, very extreme reaction to something that is not even legislative yet.
And then I would challenge you back and say that the reason that you've got assets is growth.
If you were to sell absolutely everything right now, now, I don't know what you've got in assets, but the fact that you're supporting you and your child purely based on capital gains tells me there's a significant amount of wealth there.
Let's assume it's $3 million.
If you were to sell that $3 million, you're going to pay tax on it when you sell it, even though you didn't need to.
You then have to do something with that.
So you're going to put it into, you've mentioned a bond ETF, maybe put it in a high-interest bank account.
It's still going to get taxed.
As soon as you're over $45,000, you're at the same tax rate of what you would have got if you just left it.
Now, Nick, if selling everything is the right decision for you based on what you need from an income perspective or your short-term goals, then it would have been the right decision before Budget 9.
Selling everything is not going to achieve the goal.
It's just going to put you into a state of short-term tax savings and not going to support you through long-term wealth creation.
