And that can in and of itself work.

Oh, so the low serotonin theory is, you're right, it has been debunked.
But I guess because antidepressants, which work on serotonin, increase the amount of available serotonin in your brain...
worked so well, they were like, well, it must be that depression is because people have low serotonin levels.
But as they do more and more research, the findings are more and more inconsistent.
It just doesn't show a clear relationship.
So then it's like, well, what is what does cause depression?
There are some biological factors that might make somebody more predisposed to becoming depressed.
I don't think that this is particularly well known and research is ongoing.
It's things like a dysregulated stress response.
So more difficulty to calm your body down after being stressed or heightened emotions.
It could be inflammation in the brain, changes in neuroplasticity.
