In the very earliest days when I was the most worried, it was as simple as having somebody watch Ryan and going out to dinner with my husband.
And just realizing that I was still capable of
you know, conversation and joy and having an experience where he wasn't present with me.
I think the self care is really important.
In some ways being able to learn from and model from my husband, who this this may be a stereotype, but
My experience has been that he has the ability to have more distance than I do as the mom.
And he has been able to hold some perspective that maybe I couldn't see right away that was extremely helpful.
So one of the things that happened early on that definitely helped me on our on my path to just feeling
healthier and being able to be more proactive is that my husband said
You know, we don't know what the future holds for Ryan because when he was that young, you know, we had our the psychologist that worked with us said, you know, I think he's going to talk someday.
You know, so we went from thinking we had this completely typically developing, healthy child, baby, toddler who who was very joyful and was it pretty easy baby.
to all of a sudden f completely fearing for his future and really not knowing and hoping that he would become verbal was what we were told.
And so there was this, you know, having to let go of
The fixed expectations that we were holding for our child, which I think every parent has to do in some way, but for us it was you know so much.
you know, so much of a stronger thing that was right in front of us.
And my husband was able to say, We don't know what the future holds, but what we do know and what we can focus on is how can we help Ryan just become the best Ryan he can be.
And every ch every time I say this I get teary.
And it really is true.
Like once I was able to to let go of all my fixed expectation and focus on, oh yeah, that's right, what do I need to do to just help him live his fullest potential and realize at the end of the day that's what's true for all of us.
Then I could get out of focusing on the future, which is I think where a lot of the fear lay, and just getting more present and you know, enjoying, you know, all of the great qualities that he had already.
