These guys were not guys having T.I.
and Wayne.
Jeezy was on the come up.
These guys were not having label issues, but I think that they had seen what the artists that came before them had been able to build through mixtapes, right?
And we're talking just like rapping over other people's beats, just like being able to get some ideas off.
These were often like play boxes, sandboxes to like get creative ideas out that might not have worked on a record, like an official studio album.
They also use this to build buzz.
And
When we talk about Wayne's career and why Wayne is one of the greatest rappers ever, yeah, Carter II is great.
And Carter III is one of the biggest rap albums that's ever been made.
And Carter I is great.
Wayne's put out great commercially available music.
But the case for Wayne as the greatest rapper alive is on these like –
free, like I can get off all these ideas.
I can put out like three of these a year without label interference or worrying about singles or budgets or anything like that on these types of projects.
So Tyler's not doing that with this, right?
Like Tyler's paying homage to this and it's more of an aesthetic choice than it is anything of what some of these earlier artists did.
