I would get at house parties when I was a bit pissed.

I'd sneak off and get their landline and ring because I knew her number and ring Amanda on the landline and have a good korero with her for a while and then hang up and I'd shoot you in a month of flatmates.

We'd go, how are we in Japan from 30 minutes on Friday night?

How good.

Yeah, so naughty, eh?

But, you know, it was a difficult time for our family when Amanda left too.

My grandparents had just died and quite close together.

And mum was very close to them and, you know, mum was prone to depression and dad lost his job.

So it was a real shit time.

And so we all ended up coming up to Auckland.

I came up to Auckland kicking and screaming.

But I'm really glad that that happened and, yeah.

He was just amazing.

He died when I was 16, but he was a stand-up comedian.

He used to have a little duo and he would play the banjolele with his friend Cliff.

And I mean, some of the content, let's not go there.

But he was just full of joy, my grandad.

Naughty, you know.

And my family was quite conservative, you know, like loving, but very...

You know, very quiet, didn't want attention.
