On May 17th, 1931, Marshall Herff Applewhite Jr.
was born the youngest of four kids in a small town of Spur, Texas.
And his father, Marshall Herff Applewhite Sr., raised a devout and close-knit family.
And he was a Presbyterian minister who traveled frequently on a mission to establish churches throughout Texas.
And he brought the family along with him.
So the constant uprooting of home life gave Marshall a mobile upbringing.
And tie that along with being a minister's son, and it's not hard to see the pressures and challenges he faced from a very early age.
Not giving him a pass, by the way.
Not even a little bit.
But you know, we're gonna empathize just a little at the beginning because he's a little kid at this point, all right?
So Marshall was brought up in a deeply religious environment, and his family life was rather traditional and strict, and largely because of his father's job as a minister.
Because Marshall Sr.
fully expected his kids to live righteously, adhering to Christian morals.
and he firmly disciplined them to ensure this.
But even with this, it still seemed like Marshall did enjoy his upbringing, embracing the culture fully.
And Marshall would regularly attend church, and he was seen as extremely dedicated to the faith.
And Marshall demonstrated an intense passion for music and the performing arts, and he possessed a clear aptitude for public speaking as well.
