So through the late 1980s, the group continued to live their quiet secretive lives.
And now it was time to move to San Diego, California, where they rented a mansion in the wealthy Rancho Santa Fe area.
And as a source of income, they turned to tech-based jobs.
And many members were educated and some already had backgrounds in tech.
And they founded a small business called Higher Source.

under Marshall's guidance, where they did website design and various other programming services, a perfect fit with the growing dot-com industry.
And members did their work under aliases for protection.
And the adoption of an early internet-based business has led some people to refer to Heaven's Gate, as they would call themselves by the midnight, what they would call themselves by the mid-1990s, as the first internet cult.
And they also launched their own website called heavensgate.com by 1996 in order to further reach people with their teachings online.
Because Marshall saw tech and all of its advancements as a tool to convert people to the cause and support the mission, all while continuing to stay isolated.
And any group members that worked outside of the home still kept up with their strict lifestyle and refrained from any socialization.
Yet despite their generally low profile existence, Marshall was still convinced that the end of the world was fast approaching.
And in the early 1990s, he decided to make his final public attempt to draw new members to Salvation.
And in 1993, a rather prominent ad appeared in US Today.
The headline read, UFO Cult Resurfaces with Final Offer.
And that ad, along with several others placed in different papers and magazines, proclaimed the general message they've been stating this whole time.
That the Earth would soon be recycled, and any and all people were invited to learn how to avoid destruction through evacuation.
And they also made a series of videos titled, Beyond Human, The Last Call, that aired on satellite TV in 1992.
