It clearly in step with the Canadian Canadian. Okay, so today, as you all saw just an hour or so ago, President Obama announced that, pardon me, President Biden. Whoa. That is news. I don't have anything. I don't have anything. I don't have anything. I don't have anything. I don't have anything. I just don't have anything. I don't have anything. I don't have anything. I just don't have anything.
I don't have anything. I don't have anything. I just don't have anything. I don't have anything. Folks.
It is critical that we have a strong domestic steel industry that protects our national security and our supply chains. Today, the President demonstrated once again that he will always act to protect the security of this nation, as well as the resilience of our supply.
She's been doing this job with the president for almost four years. She's a former senator and has been a critical partner in getting the economy restarted.
So we are certainly aware. The President is aware. So we are closely tracking the activity and coordinating closely with relevant agencies, including DHS and FBI, to continue to investigate these incidents. Don't have anything beyond that to share. Obviously, this is something that DHS and FBI are tracking very, very closely, and so I would have to refer you to them directly.
But aware, keeping an eye out, and looking into the incidents that you just mentioned.
So I cannot make any kind of predictions or comments about that specifically from here. This is something that DHS is looking at and FBI, so I would have to refer you to them. I don't have anything beyond that we're tracking this very closely. Obviously, we're all aware of the incidents that have been reported. I'm not going to go into what they could be or could not be from here.
That is something that obviously is being looked at as those respective agencies.
I don't have a timeline, but he certainly has been made aware of this.
That has been the president's commitment. And that you've heard directly from him. We want to make sure that there is a responsible
committed to a responsible transition and as you know his team he he and his team has certainly been uh working towards that the team has been preparing for months to make sure that happens i will say though uh if there is a uh a shutdown and i don't want to get too much into hypotheticals but this is the reality transition activities will be restricted
And with limited exceptions, obviously, but such as prevent imminent threats to the safety of human life or the protection of property. Those are the things that we would, you know, that we would have to be concerned about. And so we're doing everything to ensure a smooth transition. But the choice to allow a transition to move forward is in the hands of Republicans in Congress.
You know, we can continue to have this smooth transition of power if they stop threatening a shutdown. And, you know, they have an opportunity, Republicans in Congress have an opportunity to keep the government open so that we can continue what the President's commitment has been for months now, is to make sure that there is a smooth transition of power.
So we are certainly aware. The President is aware. So we are closely tracking the activity and coordinating closely with relevant agencies, including DHS and FBI, to continue to investigate these incidents. I don't have anything beyond that to share. Hunter Biden was scheduled to receive his sentencings in both cases later this month, but now he'll get a full pardon, despite the president repeatedly saying he wouldn't do it. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre says the president believed there was a, quote, miscarriage of justice in the process.
The pardon shields Hunter Biden from any further prosecution by the Justice Department for anything he might have done in the last 10 years. The president himself has not spoken to the press about the pardon since announcing it Sunday evening. Deepa Shivaram, NPR News.
