Wars are raging worldwide.
Researchers at Uppsala University in Sweden say the level of conflict in 2025 was the highest since 1946.
There were 65 active conflicts in 2025, they said, in which almost a quarter of a million people were killed.
Of those, eight were wars between countries, the rest were internal conflicts.
The Ukraine-Russia war was the deadliest, accounting for 62% of all battle-related deaths.
It was followed by Gaza and then Sudan, data showed.
The conflict in Sudan also drove a historical spike in deliberate one-sided violence targeting non-combatants.
