Well, joy is not good math in that way.
Like it doesn't it's not good things adding up and then congratulations, you get joy.
It is however
it's two things at one time which seem contradictory.
The first is that it is a gift, like it's a surprise and you can't will it.
So you can't actually choose joy.
Um
It will surprise you and it will happen to you often at a really weird time.
I mean, I think people underestimate just how weird joy is.
Like it's in the shouldn't make sense category.
It's not just like I love chocolate and thank God there's a lot of chocolate here.
It's like I was at a funeral and the fourth time the pastor mispronounced my dad's name, I felt this weird, hysterical.
And you're like, oh my gosh, I could hate myself.
That's joy.
Okay.
And the reason why it's so strange is it's because it's not just a positive emotion.
It gets us in this existential story place.
It's a story.
It reminds us that it's good for us to be, period.
