And um I I sort of kept saying, I want to do end of life care research with Scott Halburn and um
And that's what I did.
And I started to realize in that two year process, boy, running this RCT is awesome and I love my team, but I don't really love advanced directives.
And um so I took a palliative care elective in my last two weeks of fellowship.
uh with Nina O'Connor, an amazing uh mentor and clinician, and just fell in love, realized I had both missed the boat a little bit clinically, and um it was clearly going to be where I wanted to spend my time doing research and sort of bringing more palliative care to the living with serious illness instead of dying from serious illness population.
That just kind of sparked me a little bit more.
So
I've took on two years of sort of um
An apprenticeship model at Penn, um training with the fellows, but not really being one because I had grants and it was an interesting um couple of years.
But here I am many years later with um
An exciting research career.
And um I practice both on the palliative care consult team and and in the ICU.
So kind of right where I want it to be.
Yes, um I
I think that palliative care in the ICU is an absolute important area, but I just for some reason have always come at it from a a a even further back thirty thousand foot view of
Um, all serious illness, you know, cancer, non-cancer, not just pulmonary non-cancer, um, even as a pulmonologist, not just in the ICU, I I do tend to focus in the hospital setting.
It's where I practice, it's what I know.
Um, but yeah, I sort of take a broader a broader approach.
Sure.
I I think um where I was talking today about where the need is for from an evidence standpoint.
