And because what we do every week is bring together a pile of freshly published books, you can probably smell them from there, and freshly opinionated reviewers.
But this time, of course, we also have a room full of readers here at the Melbourne Writers' Festival.
Well, I read that short story as well, which has a girl...
who's about 10 years old on the beach with her father.
The father is lost on the beach.
He's disappeared.
His body is not found.
And we then see this girl having a conversation with an analyst, which is just so cleverly done.
We've got this girl who is so clever.
She sort of vibrates with interest and passion and discomfort because she's in grief.
She's lost her father.
And there's a version of that at the beginning of this novel with these two characters walking on a beach.
And I think one of the things that she does, so Louisa and Cirque, Cirque is the father, is that our sense of these characters keep on being unended.
But having read the short story, then opening this book, which is, what, 450 pages long?
Oh, longer, yeah.

We both had to read it electronically, so I didn't realise quite how long it was going to be as I kept reading it.
Can you talk about that set-up and the impact that it had on you, BJ?
