This summer, the Premier League smashed the record for spending within the division with £1.7 billion worth of transfers between Premier League clubs alone.
Today we're going to be getting into what that means for football here in the UK, why player prices are so high, and how the wealth gap is affecting clubs in Europe.

So, Premier League clubs then spent around £3.6 billion this window, and according to analysis by The Athletic, 48%, nearly half of this, was spent on players in last season's Premier League, shattering the record for spending within the division.
In the six summer windows between 2017 and the 2022 seasons, the average Premier League spend on Premier League players in the
previous season was 418.2 million, which means we have seen a comparative fourfold increase this summer.
Now, Adam, you've written a piece on this, which is up on the athletic right now.
What have you made of the spending within the league this summer?
So what it basically means, Matt, is that the Premier League is pretty much operating in its own football economy.
Why do you think there's been such an extreme increase in spending within the league?
