So using it frequently enough to get your money's worth is sort of a key there. matched

Do a trial period, either a month or a year subscription before paying for a lifetime subscription to see how often you're using the product. matched

Calculating in your mind how many months or years is a lifetime subscription worth based on that monthly or annual subscription fee. matched

And that way you can mathematically decide if it's worth the lifetime subscription. matched

That's a reason why the fine print is really important to look at because technically they don't have the right unless they have put in the legalese into that fine print saying this product is subject to change, it only lasts the lifetime of the company, etc. matched

So one example of this is the Rolling Stone magazine, which in June they switched their lifetime subscription, which they've had for decades. matched

And they switched it from being print to digital. matched

So people who had paid for a lifetime subscription and had been getting print magazines for the years are now only getting a digital version of the magazine. matched

And obviously a lot of people are not happy about that, but they were able to do that. matched

American Airlines, it appears, set up a situation that wasn't benefiting them as a company. matched

Their lifetime subscription, which launched in the 80s, allowed passengers to get all kinds of benefits, lounge access, free flights. matched

And so a lot of people did sign up, but they ended up canceling that program because they were losing so much money on it. matched

It's been reported that they were losing a million dollars per person for a couple of different passengers who were really taking advantage of this. matched

However, the people who did enroll in a lifetime subscription before they ended the program, they still have all of those benefits. matched

That's a good example of if you see a lifetime membership that seems almost too good to be true, sometimes it can be worth it if the terms of the agreement have to actually go on for the rest of your life. matched

But it is also possible that companies can change it or end it before your life ends. matched

There's not really much you can do at that point because if the company goes out of business, the product no longer exists, in a lot of cases at least. matched

If you outlive your subscription, it's possible to be involved in a lawsuit like the one of SiriusXM. matched

It's possible to win that lawsuit. matched

If the company goes away, it's pretty difficult to argue that you still have rights to a product if it no longer exists. matched
