the other thing i would say is going into these processes because basketball is such a closely connected community is calling out where you've got an interest saying i know this candidate i've worked with this candidate before or we're from the same association making that overt to the rest of your panel members so that can be factored into any decision making is really important
I think it's gut feel and I think if you're calling it out to the rest of your panel members then you can all make a decision together rather than relying on the person with the interest to make that judgement call as to whether to call it out in the first place or not.

having an open conversation with your panel members to say, actually, I think if I ask this question, it might give a leading answer.
So I'm not going to take that one.

I think interviews, it is a difficult process and you are there to prove that you have the requisite skills and experience for that opportunity.
Every organisation wants the best person for the role.
But that doesn't mean you have to turn up the heat so much and cause that much stress to someone because you're not getting the best of your candidate.
You're actually getting the absolute worst of your candidate.
A good panel will know that.
If culturally that's how people treat each other in that organisation, then as a candidate, that would be a red flag for me.
