I was out this evening in search of one or more of those moments.
It was an hour or so till the sunset.
And that time of day.
often called golden hour or the magic hour.
When the light becomes rich and warm and loses its harsh glare.
When we and the world around us seem to glow, eyes light up, hair gleams, skin reflects pleasing soft light.
Even without a camera, it was a lovely time just to look at the world around you.
So I was looking.
I was on foot, walking through the older part of downtown, where the streets are narrow and paved with bricks rather than blacktop.
There is a mural painted on the side of an old building.
A woman in profile, her hair full of flowers, her eyes full of stars.
And I stopped to look at her in the golden light.
I passed her a few times a week, but hadn't taken the time to really look.
And drink in the details for a bit.
One of her arms dangled, seeming to hang outside the frame of the painting.
She had a ring on each finger, and I looked at the way the stones on them gleamed in the light.
In her thick black hair, among the stems of periwinkle, I spotted two glowing cat eyes, and a gray tail curled around her neck.
She seemed to be looking out across the village, watching over us.
And as I walked on, I felt safe under her gaze.
On Main Street, the setting sun was cutting through the streetlights and the filled planters hanging from them.
